Current Growouts

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
UPDATE : So, my friends Festae is of nice size now and I have it at my Place. we went in on a few juveniles that he will grow out and let me take the big(what I believe to be ) female off his hands) I do believe my fish a male in contrast to what everyone has said on this on forum, and I am about to find out this month or the next feww days for sure when I introduce them together!

My Fish posted here : the fins come to a nice point, as with most males of common cichlids) And They just seem to get longer. I have only bred JD's and Had a female Jaguar lay eggs alone so little experience)
The Festae brought over to my tank is about the same size but you can clearly see the fin differential. other than that not much difference. except body shape.

I have removed my male form the tank, rearranged furniture - and added the(what we think is) female yesterday. I will add some pics as she comes out, as well as catch a vid of the initial interaction between the two. Hopefully she is out when I get home from work. Sshe spent her first night in the far corner of the tank.

Anyone have any advice on breeding these two if it works out sexually/chemistry wise?
I've seen the divider trick, but when I had JD's they just bred the first couple of spawns. Was never really trying to breed them. Just happened with other fish in the tank.

Any advise would be great.
Thanks

the fins don't matter, not when you have the body shape and dorsal blotch that you female has. Why did you ask for us to sex it if you completely disregarded what we said?

Update on my current festae growout.
Festae is now alone in the 75 gallon(Midevil laid eggs and was passed on to a friends tank).
Its kind of weird with less activity in the tank.
It has seemed to grow kinda slow compared to other cichlids I have owned. Color has been rather light/pale lately as well. Still seems too early to tell if male or female, to my eye at least.
I will continue to post pics of the growth and maturation.

My Festae has grown about an inch and a half in almost a year. They are painfully slow growers. This is with a very healthy diet, weekly water changes and ideal tank parameters. The colors are starting to show very nicely though.

Im not disregarding. I appreciate your input. You seem o have a lot of experience. I want to believe it is female, and that the people selling them and looking at mine are retards at the stores here. I guess I would just be experimenting to learn from experience as I have with past cichlids. I will remove them if thing get feisty right away and she/he/whatever will go back to one of his tanks.

That is if it makes it. I have always noticed this fish acting weird at the owners place but thought it may be shy. Could call it a rescue the way its last tank was kept. He mentioned it tried to jump out, and frantic behavior, and I know its an irregular eater. Digging and hanging in one spot..appears a little bloated not sure.

you have a nice female, and from that description of the fish, it sounds like internal parasites. does it have white stringy poop?
