Did some aquascaping tonight... Took me awhile to settle with this. Will see how it settles with me over the next couple weeks. What do you think? The rocks didn't turn out as nice as I expected. After scrubbing and boiling they weren't exactly the shade I thought they were.

Question.... what kinda lighting do you use in your tanks? You both seem to have lights that show the color on the fish well. Right now I just have some outdoor pond lights hooked up under my conopy. Not good lighting at all. Since my tanks are in my sunroom I rarely use lights, but I'd really like a nice one for when it's dark out so I can get better pictures without glare.

I'm digging the rockwork! I know the feeling about the colors being slightly off from what's expected, but I like the range of shades better than everything matching and blending in together. I think overall it adds a little more depth than matching everything to one shade of one color. Just my $0.02 though lol

I hear you... Do you think I achieved that or needs more contrast? I think I'll be adding a few more rocks possibly, about a 1/4 the size of those...The right side of the tank still needs work

MrsE88 I use beamworks led lights. They're 10000K spectrum. I don't remember the wattage or lumens on them at the moment but less is more imo.

aztsm I think what you've done is exactly what I would do. Since I have a black background and light substrate, I try to keep all my rockwork on the lighter side - but I don't care so much what "color" it is as long as it's not a bold dark shade like the background. this way it helps differentiate between the substrate, décor, and background ya know? Rather than having a couple large rocks that are so dark and so similar in color to the background you can't tell if it's décor or the back of the tank. I think what you've done is perfect

MrsE88 I also use Beamswork LEDs. Absolute best price for freshwater tanks imho, especially if you're growing just a few plants or no plants at all

I am currently using a finnex planted plus 48". I have it suspending quite a bit above the tank and tilted to shine more towards the back of the tank.

Thank you, I just looked it up quick on amazon and it looks like it has good reviews. Very close in price to the satellite brand I was looking at yesterday too.
I like the different modes on the satellite but I'm tempted to go with one I can see will give me good lighting for pictures.
I'll have to do some more comparing.

I wish the pictures on amazon were of stocked tanks. For some reason they are always empty. Lol
