Super Red Salvini - The Quest for the Holy Grail

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You should separate the bigger male and powerfeed him so he gets bigger and that way his colors really come in, maybe looking a bit dull bc they are making him stressed. Let him regain some ego lol and then put him back so he handles some tail

hmm yeah this is probably a good idea. I will free up some space and then give this a try! poor little guy

I set up a new 120g long (60" x 18" x 26") this weekend and moved the two most beaten up males into it to give them some space.

Going to give them some time to heal up and get some color, and then try reintroducing some females to them and see what happens.

I'm sure with much more space and less stress they'll get back to 100% in no time
Hopefully it works out this way

update:

biggest male grew spectacularly in only a months time in the new bigger tank. Much bigger/heavier, and he colored up very well. (not *quite* as much as the females of course) Rules with an iron fist, such is the salvini temperament.

I reintroduced the largest female to him in the big tank and they took to each other immediately. The excavating of pits has begun! wish me luck trying to keep the darn plants in the ground.

sidenote: a friend is trying to rehome a synodontis eupterus to me as he doesn't really have the space for it (he got it from a local lady who underestimated its size to him) - you guys think it could survive the salvini pair ok when egg time comes? He reckons it's about 9" right now.

I have space to remove the other current inhabitants of the tank if needed, but I wouldn't really have another spot to put the featherfin. So he'd need to be able to tough it out. Tank is 120g on a 5ft long footprint.

thanks! I'll get pics up of the salvini pair when I get a chance.

I think it will be a risk adding anything to the tank with a breeding pair of salvini.

If you want your salvini to shows the red color. Try NLS Ultra red formula. You will not be disappointed.

do you think it really makes that much of a difference vs other high quality foods?

A ALL you guys are probably right re: the catfish! If I had another spot to put him in when the salvini get rough then I'd be willing to take him (he needs a good home with enough space) but as it is I'd be unable to move him.

edit: apparently "ALL" is a person - last seen nearly 10 years ago. enjoy your accidental ping, sir

If the NLS ultra red will not colored up, nothing will. It is unlike any quality pellets including other NLS formulation.
If you decided to give it a try, please keep us update on the results. And if you can take a before and after photo to share.
