I've kept various cichlids over the years(25+ years), but due to having to move so often the last 20 years, I've never been able to "keep" a fish longer than 4 or so years(military orders/reassignments) without giving it away.

Anyhow, this "seems" like a bit of a "stretch", but hey what do I know. One thing I DO know is UGF has nothing to do with it (I used them for years from 1987-1995 myself and it cannot extend a fishes life..LOL) if true......

If true that's amazing, but I just can't quite believe it myself....

Thoughts???

I dont see why it would be hard to believe??? I've personally kept a Polleni in the past for 17 years before it passed away...

Awesome, I have a 7 inch "small spot" Paratilapia Polleni (black diamond)i downstairs in the basement now, in it's own 55. Had it about 2 years.

Good to know that's possible.

Guess I've just never kept a fish or been in one place long enough to find out! I love learning new things. Today was a good day!

Yeah, that fish started off as one of the family pets till i moved out then the fish came with me...

A lot of people here seem to have some fairly old fish and as you said, just depends if you are fortunate or unfortunate enough (depending how you look at it) to be in one place a long time to give your fish time to age...

My mother found a 5" red tail shark in an abandoned fish tank with only a little water left on the bottom in a basement in an empty house, probably eating algae as the water slowly evaporated 5 years before I was born. She took it home and named it Bubba. I was 7 when it died. Go figure.

Always great to hear other stories of other keepers who have kept fish beyond their expected life expectancy...
