Flash my Super Red Arowana

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hi everyone..

Just thought i would post some updated pictures of Flash

He has grown very fast and with the fast growth also looked like he lost some of the red compared to when he arrived
The last month looks like growth has slowed a bit and the red is coming back very nicely.
Could probably be redder by now but i haven't tanned at all so, taking that into consideration, i think i am happy with his progress and he looks happy which is the main thing.

I am not an expert either but I see my Golden Aro has an inside layer of lower mouth which I have noticed distinctly a couple of times, and sometimes he keeps his food there for short while..

Male Aro keep their eggs in their mouth and this portion of mouth is used for that. I was just watching closely the pic of your red Aro and my Golden Aro and just made that assumption. However not so sure..

Interesting and yes... it actually makes a lot of sense..
I suppose if you have or are in contact with many aros it will be easier to notice things like that but if you only have one or two its more difficult because you have nothing to compare to.
Now you got me curious so im going to inspect my son's RTG's mouth tonight!

There is a rough way to sex them. The king of DIY did a video as well. This is the method they created on the farms to get an idea of sex without males carrying

I'm a huge fan of reds and you have a quality piece. I can already tell the color will develop into a nice red tone with proper care and prestine water parameters. Feed him with food with high carotene like prawns with the shell or gutload some worms with carrots before feeding. My reds at home I don't tan and never will. I have patience and wouldn't want place any unnecessary stress if I don't have to. I have a pond of reds that receives natural sunlight and their coloration has changed from years living in pond life. A handful were orange, a few had barely any color. And now they're all beautiful reds (but their 7-8 yrs old now). Patience is key here and it'll pay off. Just enjoy your red aro and let nature take its course.
