Update time! (Warning pic heavy... Seriously!)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I was thinking of going with an 1"bulk heads but im not sure yet. For some reason now that im ready to get started, my mind has decided to forget everything ive researched for months lol

Hahah yup thats usually what happens. Just a tip if you plan on using emergancy drains, i highly recommend this if the tank is inside your home amd not the garage id size your pumps around your e drain size.

If you have a choice and since you are building it you do go with the largest size you can get away with. You can always get a smaller pump but if you need more flow with smaller drains you cant get the bigger pump. I was looking into building a plywood tank (still am just not for a bit) every thing I read for the size was saying make an end overflow or back overflow and do a couple 2" drains. you can always cap them off if you aren't using them and have them if needed. If you do have multiple you will increase overall detritus removal and flow through out the tank even with smaller pumps.

So, unfortunately ive decided to go a different route with this tank...

After doing some more research my original plans may have worked but were not going to be the most practical and simple way to do things.

Also, im still considering pond armor. I've seen several people have success with it and its more readily available compared to max acr.

I was really interested in doing a weir but it doesn't look like that will be viable with the plywood tank. So bulkheads it is.

Hoping to have the new materials by next week as long as nothing crazy comes up. But once i get the base of the tank put together their will be plenty of updates.

Im also thinking about going a little bit bigger but havent decided for sure yet.

Im trying to do my research one step at a time so i don't overload my brain lol

You can totally do a weir on a plywood tank. It just makes things a little more difficult. Cut the teeth of the weir right in the wall of the tank and build an overflow box on the outside or build a weir and attach it in the tank where you want it back, end whatever. Either way you'll need bulkheads.

Yeah that's what i meant. Lol not that its not possible but more difficult than doing straight bulkhead drains

I just want everything to have the smallest possibility of screwing up

So i figured it was time for an actual update on the polys. Unfortunately I lost the weaker endli that wasnt putting on size and had one missing fin. I walked into the fish room and the pbb had him in his mouth and i got him out but he didnt make it too long afterwards. But the other endli and everyone else is doing well

The pbb had put on about an inch making him 8" now

The teug is about 6"-6.5" now

And the endli is about 4.5" now and he was barely 3" when i got him a month and a half ago

Yeah and i think on top of him being really weak and not catching up with the other because the larger endli wasn't much bigger and ate all the time.
Whereas the small weak one seemed to struggle to find food right in front of him and usually ended up settling for scraps...

No more 2" polys for me...
