Zilch's Fish-Kids

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
From what I've read 8ish years but there's not a whole ton of study on that so it could be longer. Definitely not as long as an AUL haha
Oh it's longer. I heard of 20

So I did some redecoration of the tank. Had some rocks that I had used in a prior tank, and figured I'd use some of the extra hornwort I had sitting around in a livebearer tank to spruce things up a bit. So far the polys seem to appreciate the extra decor!

My daughter also went on a naming spree:
PBB is now named: "Tongue-Tongue"
Big ornate: "Crumb"
Albino Senegal: "Tuna"
Gar: "Stick-Fish"
And my two larger ropes from the growout: "Frick and Frack"

PBB Starting to get some color! Also everyone wanted to photobomb...

The gar and COOKIE FISH were the top photobombers of the night :P

Wanted to ask you earlier about your plants. Do you have floaters in there ? If so dont they gey sucked into the overflow ?

Hah! Nice try :) Thank you though!

So for the plants I started off setting up the hornwort as floaters, since in an old iteration of the tank I did that and the UJs really liked chilling in it. Unfortunately, yeah, they all got stuck on one side because of the direction of the return pumps, and while they didn't get picked up entirely by the overflows they did start getting torn up by the constant high current which led to a ton of crap in my filter socks. So I switched modes and started weighting them down with the rocks and on the wood, I'm hoping that they'll keep growing and get all tangly with each other and create sort of a swampy upper area in the tank that less social or smaller fish can hang out in. Unless the flag tail eats it all lol

ahh you answered it.....flag tail and plants. I was going to ask don't flag tails eat plants?

They definitely do, but I don't think hornwort is a favorite for herbivores... Guess we'll find out haha
My rosy barbs have gone through all my hornwort in no time. My elodea grows faster than their appetite at least

For your flagtail?

My barbs have infinite appetite lol. They would actually be ideal poly tankmates, wild ones reaching 6" and fat. Mine grow slowly though

I know... Wishful thinking. That fish is constantly eating. Though I see it sucking on the wood or on the tank walls constantly, I haven't seen it touch the plants yet, even when they were floating
