Thinning the herd (opinions needed)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
2 fin level a week is crazy! I can only do WC every 3 weeks due to water shortage, luckily I have some of the smallest polys on here

Also don't make the same mistake as I did and go into the smaller planted route, it's no easier lol! 2 months after looking into more planting and I'm handbuilding a 40gallon custom tank and all sorts of nonsense for some good greenery. It's a money pit and almost as addictive as polypterus if you aren't careful

I have some dense planting if you saw on my thread but it's basic work behind it

I don't think many people on here are either as honest as you or care re: water quality and their fish. 2 "more than fin level" WC per week is a lot, and it starts to get draining energy-wise. And then what if you're sick, or out of town... that's a very fine line to be walking, and could easily tip into sick fish.

I really respect what you're doing here, Frank.

So... based on your notes above, it looks like you're getting rid of
CB Endli
Faranah Lap or
Ansorgi

Can we get more pictures of those 3? Are you leaning towards any of them specifically? I love Faranah Laps. Do you think she looks different enough from the PBB? Someone mentioned she was very similar - do you agree?

well then sounds like you've made up your mind. sp Delaware for the green and if you are looking to get into something else wouldn't the faranah lap or ansorgii get you more cash then the endli too? at least here it would ive never seen either in a store, endli yes.
Over all though do you believe you are overstocked? that they are or will be cramped and removing 2 will fix that? I ask this because to me as long as there is no aggression from crowding, and everyone is happy and healthy its no easier to take care of 2 less. I'm not trying to be harsh.....I just reread what I typed and thought wow that sounds like I'm being a jerk, not intentions just wondering why? J jaws7777 you've been super cool to me since ive come here without that and magpie magpie and Polyaddict86 Polyaddict86 I probably wouldn't have stayed. So you guys would be the last people id be critical of or rude to. I like to call you guys my group of coarse Hendre Hendre clm08k clm08k Vancouver_98683 Vancouver_98683 are part of it too....lucky guys
I second that about those members being awesome. They were the reasons why I stayed too! I call everyone here on the poly forum my group too. :)

You do bring up a good point about if 2 fish would drastically affect the bioload. Didn't sound like a jerk at all.

I love how involved your kids are in your fishkeeping. super cool!! on another note- just looking at how my growout tank changed and how much cleaner it was when i moved my hybrid poly out of it I can only assume the change in bioload from moving polys of this size would be huge.

Last night after reading this thread over i sat infront of the tank for awhile and i can definitly say the ones that absolutly wont go are

Both congicus... i love them totally easy going fish and always out....plus congi are my favirote poly. Ghost congi is going through some growth spurt and gaining size..both were sort of small under 12 inches so...

Faranah endli, daughter loves her and i have history with her was purchased small and almost died on me.

Ornate, my sons favirote poly which is why ive put up with his b.s all this time and hes my oldest poly was earth worm sized when we got him.

Koloton, active always out doesnt bother anyone and is just real cool looking poly

PBB just a cool fish

Sp. Candy/faranah so far she easy breazy and the most unique looming poly i've ever owned.

Teug i like thw little guys activity and potential to grow onto a monster size.

That leaves
Cb endli - probably the easiest to sneak out of the house since its so inactive no one would notice

Faranah lap, and ansorgii are cool dont bother anyone.

Sp.delaware cool fish but would get me a nice penny to out towards some other things i want to get into. And i didnt raise her.
Sounds like you have been putting a lot of thought into this. It was refreshing to hear about all your different polys!

Totally don't blame you for wanting less maintenance. I am struggling with doing daily WC for the 10gal, can't imagine TWO fin level for a 300g (dies). Think it is awesome that you want the best for the fish and also want to make your life easier.

Also your son and me are on the same page lol. What twentyleagues twentyleagues said. Awesome kid.

*Chanting*NIGEL! NIGEL! NIGEL!
Love the poly family here, too!

I think that 2 fish that are as large as these guys are would affect the bioload, and as everyone grows I think it would be exponential.
good point. I forget how large they are sometimes.

Well we can scratch sp.delaware off the list. I asked my son, he calls her godzilla.

See we maybe be able to uograde the 150 in the near future and me and the boy have been catfish shopping. Said "hey if we sell godzilla we can get all the catfish we've been looking at" (only 2 or 3 and a group of smaller ones) he looked me dead in the eye and " dad thats not happening" lmaoooo
Smart kid:D

I kind of think it would be wrong to sell the ansorgii 1)it was a gift from dmc and 2) it really has grown on me. I need to start taking pics with the lights turned up a little more. Its a pretty cool looking

Sooooo ita the cb endli and F lap that i will putout there and see if i get a bite

Koloton are my favirote looking lap even over pbb. I do think the pbb looks very different from f lap and i think kong has some great potential to be a cool fish. I think if i had a darker back round kong would look even better.
Soo to sum it up the f lap is just a luxury while koloton and pbb are polys that were always on my hit list
