less advanced forums?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hi guys,

After watching and reading several posts on several threads in the group, I'm coming to the idea that I'm simply not educated enough to hang with most of the members. Perhaps another forum might be more appropriate for my needs and desires.

Are there other forums that you have used, and perhaps moved on from because the information wasn't advanced enough?

Thank you all for helping the dummy out,
AZR
The reason I joined MFK and not another forum was for the wealth of knowledge the members on MFK had. Add to that the kindness of the members here and their willingness to explain things and you've got a great place to learn.

If there is something you do not understand just ask for clarification. Most of the members will simplify things for you if you ask them nicely. :)

Most of my post count is made up of the hundreds of questions I've asked. Stick it out, ask for clarification when you need it, listen to the advice you're given and before you know it you'll be a pro!

And don't worry if you read a post that's so confusing it seems like its written in a foreign language. I also get confused reading some of the more experienced members posts, and probably spend more time googling what they mean than actually reading the posts.. :D

We all have to begin somewhere, even the pro's on this site that have a masters degree...

I would say you are lucky you found this site, i probably learned most of what i have about fish keepihg from this site...

I would go as far as saying unless later down the line you get interested in a very specific part of fish keeping, this site will cover most your needs and questions...

At one point I belonged to three different fish forums. MFK is by far the most active and has the most knowledgeable members. I ended up dropping the others because they were not nearly as responsive as this one. And, as stated, there are no dumb questions. We are here to learn from each other, to help and to share our experiences.

The same method you utilized to discover you can't hang with anybody on here is the exact same method you should continue using to get better. Just keep reading, ask stupid questions, have humility, realize there is no finish line and that the further you go, the less you'll discover you know.

This forum is all you need.

Hello, hope you are doing good!
You have come to the right site. Many of the fish keepers here have a lot of experience and will teach you everything you need to know. I have learned a lot from this site just by reading some of the sticky threads out there, like for example the pleco ones, etc. NO QUESTION IS A DUMB QUESTION! We all had to start somewhere, and we have been in your shoes. You will get some wonderful and helpful advice that will educate you.
Stick around, ask away questions you have and chat fish.

Nah, you don't want to leave this site. There's just too much to learn from these guys. I've even PM'd a few members and they're all glad to help. By the way Drstrangelove, you're a legend, got rid of the ick, thanks for your advice.

hello; Just looked thru the thread. I did not find any posts from the Op other than the initial post. Are we talking to each other?

To me, there are two ways to take this question; either, you want a forum that tells you that everything you're doing wrong is just fine, or you want a forum that can tell you how to do things right, but in a simpler way.

If you want to hear that keeping even the simplest of goldfish in a one gallon fish bowl with no filter is just fine, "because they are hardy fish and will grow to their surroundings", then you will be fine talking to whatever your nearest local fish store is.

If you want to keep the simplest of goldfish properly, and know what is ok, even though the simplest of goldfish really require a 125 gallon tank, then this is the place for you. The people here can tell you everything you need to know for freshwater fish. You can ask what you can keep in the setup you have or what setup you need for a certain fish. If you don't understand something, they will be happy to explain it in detail. You are in great hands hear...no matter what your experience level.

You will most likely find all the information you need for whichever fish species that you intend to keep and you will learn about other aspects of the hobby as well.
You have come to the right place.
