The public schools here also removed Columbus Day as a holiday.....no idea why,my son does not go to public school.

I live in massachusetts. My kids had it off. We work regularly in Rhode Island. The entire state shuts down and they celebrate Columbus, it’s a predominately Italian state. I think it’s an antequted holiday myself.
Maybe antiquated was the wrong word. I’m not sure why we as Americans celebrate Columbus Day. Didn’t he land in the Caribbean? Wasn’t this land already some what inhabitanted when he got here? And why should anyone take pride in honoring the life of a man who brought misery and degradation of the native people. This isn’t the thread for a Columbus Day discussion though. Lol

Hello; OK not the thread for a discussion but since you made the statements can I ask about one part. Are you saying Columbus himself made native people miserable and degraded them or that others came along later and did the deeds, but he gets the blame just because??
Sort of like Alfred Nobel found a way to make nitro more stable in the form of dynamite and made big construction much more safe but some folks turned his discovery into bombs, so he might be the next protest target?
