HELP: L046 / ZEBRA Sex ID

I’m getting confused more and more. I’m confident that the top pleco is male as I bought it from a reputable person here. For the bottom pleco, I just saw the ad and bought it as an impulse buy. The story is, it was originally part of a pair but the male died and seller was just disposing it. I bought it with the intent of putting it on my display tank but a few months after had the opportunity to buy a male. Even the behaviour of the male is quite different to what the seller was expecting – it should be in a cave and NOT roaming a lot (I rarely see it on a cave). The bottom pleco on the otherhand is the one on a cave.

I don’t have the extra cash to get more of these pleco as they are expensive. I’ll just keep them as display for now until I can figure out their sex and get enough cash to buy more. Appreciate your thoughts on this.

Your biotope doesn't match where they come from but that's totally fine if you're just going to keep them and not attempt to breed them. They are as tough and adaptable as any other pleco. Your fish look very young. I can't impress upon you all enough how difficult it is to accurately sex them below 3" or about 8cm. Until my fish got mature, the differences were almost imperceptible and drove me crazy. Some days I thought I figured it out but then it would all change and I'd be confused again.

litigator666 litigator666 ...not sure where you are located in the US but I have some fry growing out and a male guarding another clutch of eggs. Seems you are looking for adults but if you want juveniles, let me know in a few months when these grow out a bit.

How much ru selling your for?

thanks for the offer @phreeflow but i'm in Aus. I'll keep these for now on my display until something affordable shows up. a fry (1 inch) here cost on ave AUD500 a piece.

Didn't know you were in Aus. $500/each sounds like our prices 10 years ago. Hopefully they come down. Here in the US, small fry like that are around $125-$175 depending on who or where you get them from. Good luck and be patient with these fish...it's worth it.
