Ropefish Tankmates

Wow! I usually see them at my lfs at around 3-4" and I think but not sure they are around $100. Leopard frog are $69 i dont know how rare but super cool too. They breed quit a few though. But typically their prices are high. They also breed angles and rams. High priced again but if you want a ram that will survive/thrive in typical aquarium parameters then that's the place to go. So I thought it was high priced that $250 is insane.

I think we maybe thinking of different plecos the zebra pleco I'm thinking of is the L046 zebra pleco, Hypancistrus zebra, they max at 3", 9I've seen them sell for $500 on aquabid

I believe that you are correct. I bet they are l270s. Like I said I'm not 100%. But size wise they were deffinatly around 3 at least possibly 3.5". So that'd make them adults. I don't exactly remember but I'm also pretty sure they are white and black but stripes may run across the body. Next time I'm there I'll have to check. I'll take a pic and post it if it is zebras and I'm right saying nanny nanny booboo. If I'm not right this will be the last we speak of it.....lol
 
well there are at least 6 plecos with zebra in the name and probably 30 or more white and black striped plecos with some at decent prices but the king of small plecos is the zebra and they can be stupid expensive compared to very similar looking plecos

Well then yeah, to the op don't get the stupid expensive ones get the ones that are not stupid expensive!
 
I like all sorts of patterned plecos: stripes, spots, patches, you name it! A few of my favorites that I have seen at my LFS are the Columbian zebra (L129), mega clown (L340), queen Arabesque (L260), brilliant (L184), red titanic (L273), rhino, and sailfin. My limitations are I can't bring myself to pay more than $40 for a fish and I don't want a pleco that is going to grow much over 7 inches, so the red titanic, rhino and sailfin are out. I have an L129, but it is wild-caught and super shy. I am considering a brilliant pleco or queen Arabesque for the ropefish tank. I think the mega clown maxes out at 3 or 4 inches in length, so it might be too small. I would love a salfin, but they just get too big. What are your thoughts?

Starting off in a 50 gallon, could you do 3-5 ropes, or is that too much? It seems like it would be overcrowded. I am open to cleaning twice a week if needed. The tank will be heavily planted, with wood and caves for hiding to make them feel more secure. I will ensure there are no places to get stuck either. I don't want any ropefish to drown!
 
hmmm, the hardest part is going to be price most of the nice plecos start around 50 or 60 however one of my favorites are the fancy colors of bristlenose such as super reds, pineapples(an orange albino), or the red marbles(super red x calico), if you could find a cheap green phantom that would work. You could also do a flash pleco or maybe a l169
 
Has anyone kept adult swordtails with ropefish? Would that be asking for trouble? I know the fry would get eaten, but I don't need hundreds of baby swordtails anyway.
