No. Well maybe. But it would need to be filtered well before going into the rodi unit. The membrane would probably be clogged quite quickly costing more then the water you are trying to save.
You'd only save 1/4 to 1/10th of the water by running it through an ro filter. The rest would be waste.
Could distill it and recover near 100%. But then you'd be paying hundreds of dollars for power.

Unfortunately, living in an apt building with a dog = not much space and definitely not enough floor place to put too many plants... so all my potted plants are quite small and normally on the windowsill...

I love documentaries and am always looking for new ones to watch. I just watched this one after seeing you mention it here. Very interesting, sad, and I felt so guilty. I really feel bad for those with empty wells out there. I really can’t imagine.
The corruptness of it all is crazy too.
And after them talking about the movie Chinatown so much I think I might just watch that at some point too.

But then you have to remineralize the water...
Solar distillation is free but isn't feasible in all locations/seasons. Still have to remineralize the water though.
I don't know if solar would have the capacity for a good sized tank in a reasonable area. Although, spread out over a week if you're somewhere sunny... Sounds like something fun to try though, like a flow through distillation setup, constantly draining water from the tank, distilling it and returning it. Have the return go through a large container full of limestone to at least add some calcium and get the alkalinity back up a bit. But it should be no worse than using rainwater for the change.
