It seems like black crappie are seriously neglected in aquariums given how colorful they are, similar to jaguar cichlids and also getting to a similar size. So which would you prefer? Have you ever kept a pomoxis nigromaculatus?16-in-Crappie.jpg 8965f1a340217b21c585fa5c00990ab3_1024.jpg

Black crappie get a hell of a lot bigger than jags ever will, I've seen captive crappie break the 24 inch mark (and wild ones have broken 37 in the wild).

Crappie are not fighters like jags, but are in my opinion much cooler, great for a koi pond

You must have a special ruler to measure your penis and fish if you’re measuring crappie at 24” as most of the record fish are like 14-15ish range...

Also keep in mind: aquarium fish do not qualify for record books, nor (usually ) are private waters.

There have been several captive largemouth bass that could of been world records had they been wild fish.

I've attempted to keep crappie in a "native" tank and my pond (outside) several times....very very very boring and delicate fish imo...damn tasty tho!...now bluegill believe it or not...are savages lol...actually have 3 currently living with Oscars and they're holding their own

What size are your bluegill? Several of mine eventually got over 2 and a half pounds

The ones I have in the tank are tiny...maybe 4in...I have a school out in my goldfish puddle that are pretty big, I'd be lying if I gave a size they're all pretty large, have had em for several years out there now...matter fact once I kept gills in a tank to hold as catfish bait...and realized they have a ton of personality...I quit using them as bait

biggest-crappie-ever-800x601.jpg The biggest Black Crappie recorded was this one at 19 inches though it does look much bigger than that in the picture. On average i am pretty sure the crappie is smaller but i thought that Jaguar Cichlids would be a good comparison fish. In addition there havent been any crappie threads in years so it would be nice to see peoples experiences with them.

How were they delicate?
