Hello; I get your points but have not as yet decided on a couple of them. Yes this has been a way of life for the well to do for pretty much all time. Those with power and/or money try to get advantages. That is one reason I play the lottery from time to time, to have some of the advantages lots of extra money can buy. I do like the idea that rich folks get hammered the same as the rest of us if they break the law. If a "perp" walk caught on camera is good enough for others than why not celebs?Been hearing a lot about it yesterday & today. I think it's completely wrong ethically and morally, but raiding house with guns drawn and talking federal charges and prison sentences IMO seems a bit over the top for something like thia. Again it's wrong to pay for your kid to get into a top school when it could take away the spot for a hard working kid, but this is something that has been going on for many years on both sides. Rich paying for kids to get in, and schools giving "gifts" to top high school sports stars to come to their college.
There should definitely be some heavy fines and some very serious community service or something that these people have to do to benifit students or people in need, but I think the federal charges and talk of prison is a bit heavy handed IMO. Although I did hear that some of them wrote off the bribes on their taxes as charitable contributions. That there is tax evasion so that one may get the ones whom did that in bigger trouble with the IRS.
I do not know what laws have been broken exactly. I guess there are federal charges to be made and if the law allows for prison then so be it. Were are talking about big money here so maybe the punishment should be prison. I do not have the funds to buy my way out of prison so am not, so far, interested in seeing these folks be able to do so. Maybe if the fines are hefty enough???
The sports stuff is another thing. I am not much in favor of the way college sports is run in general but what I have heard in this stuff is different. I heard that at least two children who had never played a sport were sneaked in a school as top players of that sport. That the bribes were structured around that fake ploy of them being atheletes. I do not figure that they are girls should matter.
My question would be did a couple of less wealthy female athletes not get a scholarship because of the ploy or not? I do not yet know.
Another question. If any of these students are currently in one of these schools should they be kicked out? Should the ones who already graduated because of these schemes lose their degrees? That investigation started back in 2011. Right now I tend to think so. If my daddy robs a bank and gives me a big chunk of the money do I get to keep the spoils of his crime after he gets caught?
Wanna bet that the students knew all about the scams?
