I plan one just filling the inner parts of this massive filter with media and some mechanical foam. Where can I get quality media real cheap?

Lava rock is a pretty decent media for really cheap... Get from Home Depot. Look at pinky filters or polyfil for mechanical. You can cut them to shape.

We have debates all the time about bio media lol. Lava Rock is a great media and has plenty of surface for beneficial bacteria to adhere to.

I put purigen and pumice stone in the bottom tray and matrix in the middle tray, bio sponges in top. Google will lead you in the right direction. Honestly there all good and nearly the same.
