Tank manufacturers are being swamped with orders because of the stimulus checks!

I got this in the mail from one of the big manufacturers, in the midwest.

I never ordered from them because of the shipping costs. It's the company that sent Joey Mullen all those tanks and aluminum racks.

BTW my car arrived from So Carolina. It's a real rattle trap, and it needs every bolt tightened, but it looks OK, and it's not rusted out. The undercarriage is unbelievably clean .

I only drove it around the block, as it has a leaky gasket on the fuel tank, and there are a host of minor issues to deal with. My first impression was, "I should mark up the price and sell it locally, then buy something better."

I do not like it nearly as well as I thought I would, because it needs some work.
Which I will just have to do.

See, my wife has been fighting this idea of another car, from the beginning, and so badly she caused me to loose out on a better car.
She was freaking out a bit thru the whole business.

But now that she's seen this car in person, her head has spun around and she's in love somehow. When I mentioned I might sell it off, her disappointment was real. I felt sorry for her. So I am fixing the car.

Funny how these things work out.

How much did it cost again?

Drove my girlfriend crazy to the point where I couldn't take it anymore.

I work for the state in the hatchery system so I still have to go to work.

The car was $9k plus transport of $1495.
Tax and fees estd $964.

This is a kit. It needs to come apart and have everything squared up. The guy who assembled it was no bodyman.

But mechanically it rocks. Engine rips, it charges, new battery, new carb, new tires, brakes feel OK, electric pump, 2 fuel filters, and the tank is clean inside. I had half my arm in it today to regasket the Wisco filler and float assy. Wiring is not tidy, but it works. Haven't tested the radio, but it has a Kenwood CD hidden. Unfortunately the speakers were not hidden. Good luck hearing the radio while driving. I'll have to pack that muffler before the DMV hears it run.

The donor car was old, but the chassis was nicely repainted. This car never saw rust. Engine has been overhauled but appears to match the chassis year, so may be original to the VW. Needs a new key switch. I played with it too much and the column locked up.

Rear suspension is nice, & it's a full irs model, but the front torsion bars need to be lightened. It rides too high in front.

If you park this next to a real SS100, it would look like the Hot Wheels version. Tires 2" too wide, body 4" too low and 2" too wide, but 9" too short. Tail too long, hood too flat radiator too short, and the cat. SS100 didn't have the Jaguar on the hood. It had a big wing nut.

The original never had bumpers.

Well I'm no car guy but I like it, it reminds me of the car Gatsby drove in "The Great Gatsby"

On the island where I live we haven't had any cases yet, but the Panamanian government quickly shut down travel to it, and closed all airports to international travel and virtually closed everything.
However, the progress of the disease on the mainland is is a different story, As of yesterday over 4,000 cases, and @ 100 deaths.
And restrictions keep getting tougher, we get daily updates from the embassy, like the one below.

Event:  Increased Movement Restrictions, COVID-19 Situation Report, and Reminders

On April 16, the Government of Panama announced that both Saturday, April 18, and Sunday, April 19, will be full quarantine whereby no one can leave their homes. For now, the inclusion of Saturday only applies to this weekend.

On April 17, Panama’s Ministry of Health (MINSA) confirmed 4,210 cases of COVID-19.

MINSA reminds citizens and residents of Panama that staying at home, not touching your face, and washing your hands frequently are the best means of prevention against COVID-19.  It also requires the use of masks, even homemade ones, when in public.

On April 1, the government expanded movement restrictions based on gender.  Individuals will be permitted to circulate during the same hours determined by ID number as set forth in previous decrees.  However, the expanded restrictions only allow for movements as follows:

· Women:  Monday, Wednesday, and Friday

· Men:  Tuesday, Thursdays, and Saturday

· Sunday:  Everyone must stay home

· Normal exceptions apply for holders of permission letters (salvoconductos)

I'm now on call 24/7 until further notice. Water changes have now become a lot smaller, and a lot more frequent.

They just started winter water pumping from a different source for my city, now we have water with a TDS of 60 but pH of 8.8+ due to addition of lime. Pretty weird. Small, frequent changes now as well.
