Hi guys, i just wanted some opinions on my 125 gallon south American cichlid setup. Want to know if these fish will be ok in the tank long term. Right now i have x1 convict x1 oscar x1 jack dempsey x1red devil x1 texas cichlid and x1 african featherfin catfish. The oscar and convict are the biggest in the tank right now both about 6 inches. Everyone else is about 3-4. Everyone seems fine right now not too much fighting going on. Any opinions are appreciated.

I agree with beau1990 beau1990 this tank will be majorly over stocked once the fish grow. Many of these species are also about to interbreed so if they choose to spawn will cause major havoc taking the whole tank as their territory. Also, the only fish that you mentioned that is from South America is the Oscar. Your convict, jack Dempsey, red devil and Texas are all from Central America, and the catfish from Africa. The central and African fish come from different water parameters (much harder water) then your Oscar, as well as your Central American species for the most part being considered highly aggressive as a rule of thumb for the species you mentioned.

Personally I would decide if you want a South American or Central American tank and go from there. In your post you said South American so I will assume that is what you want. If so, I would remove all fish but the Oscar and center the tank around the Oscar with more suitable tank mates

Ok thanks guys. Should i seperate them now or just wait until they get bigger and see if problems occur? Everyone seems haapy and healthy now.
