Got a pleco that enjoys slime coat ....

was my TSN - now my Aimara....

took him out.... replaced with seems less effective left over pellet eater...

downside now, got leftovers at bottom of tank... aimara not a fan of me mucking around the bottom of his tank...

i’d imagine at some point the aimara would not tolerate it....

has anyone had permanent detriment to their fish as a result of pleco instigated slime coat injury?

It will definitely stress the fish out, increasing risk of illness and also would make opportunistic skin issues more prevalent. Perhaps look into the probiotic solutions on the forum to help degrade waste? Or a super long siphon :D

Get nerites, they eat loads of algae and waste. Just have to deal with hard eggs, larger species exist as well. No experience with them

There are certain sedentary and slow moving fish species (discus among them)that probably shouldn't be kept with Plecos.
It is commonly thought that Plecos are simple algae and vegetation eaters, but this is far from the reality, Pleco's are omnivores that will not pass up an easily available high protein meal, like slime coat, or a sedentary fish they can munch on.
