How many bichirs in a 300 gallon?

You could put quite a few in there, but I would focus on the mix of LJ/UJ personalities and how often you want to do water changes/tank layout for the fish.

Of course the big 3: ornate, teug, weeksii, will be fine with LJs. Dels can also be fine because they can get big and girthy. Like tlindsey tlindsey said, I'd be more worried about the senegals depending on how large they are and how they get along with the other fish. It has been done before, but there is a risk the sens might get eaten depending on the size difference and the hunger of the LJs. Can't speak to the ropefish.

Agreed. And if you can pull off any floating shelving on the back side of the tank I think that will greatly aid in some aggression/personality clashing. Although I understand if you don’t want to ruin a new tank with silicone. My little guys spend more time up there than on the bottom lol

I would not mix in the ropefish with ljs or ornates. Like said above get the smaller ujs like the sens out also. It's not for sure they'll be eaten but the possibility is high.
From what I have heard about rope fish, it is not the best idea to mix with Bichirs. giseok jung giseok jung , you have an idea?

Potato Patatto Potato Patatto the shelves are a great idea and since I really want a giant poly tank I wouldn't think of it as ruining anything at all. since I will have a bit of space would it be good to do hanging/floating caves or heavy plants (fake) for them to chill in? I tend to over feed, over filter, and be a bit of a twitch about cleaning up leftover food. In my experience everyone being well fed tends to reduce aggression.

I have them with my ujs and it's fine. They all hang together.

Pics are old but most of the same fish. More ropefish now.

I did my background and shelves with great stuff pond foam. I am not in love with it but I also don’t hate it. I have since spent some more time researching backgrounds and I think I would do it more similarly to the aqua scaping company in Serbia. I’m not exactly sure how they do it but I would now buy the 3-4 inch thick insulation foam boards (I think they’re pink). I would cut them to size imitating different shaped rocks and paint them with aquarium safe paint and try to texture with sponges etc or even spray the pond foam on top of the boards. Then you’d just silicone to the back wall. I think for my next tank I would do all varying size floating shelves and just do a dark tint on the backside of the glass. It would create a lot of additional “floor space” and adds a nice 3D effect for the aquarium.

Yeah since you mentioned the shelves I've been thinking of different ways to do it so far I'm thinking multi tiered driftwood columns with stone tops maybe and also doing some suction cup/silicone acrylic shelves those I would probably coat with silicone so I could decorate them with sand, plants and small rocks.
