Odball fish for nano tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
In the 60 liter, yes they will be fine. Just make sure they are all female or 1 male 2 female. Males have a dark brown stripe on their stomachs and “wrinkles” around their eyes.
They are full fresh by the way.

That may be a bit easier what's it like to breed them could you give me an idea of what that's like
I don’t have experience breeding them. Seems like they don’t breed easily either.
Fat Homer Fat Homer might know something in the breeding department though.

That’s the tricky part. With three dwarf puffers, tankmates is difficult because each will claim a third of the tank and likely make life hell for any tankmates. Keeping a solo one would be a bit easier on tankmates. Dwarf puffers are extremely aggressive, but the some of the more successful tankmates are Pygmy cories and zebra danios. Really anything tough and passive will hold up well (no labyrinth fish or cichlids). Have lots of hiding places.

I think I will just stick to the puffers can you tell me about there care and if possible give me some examples of how to setup up a tank with decorations can you also include pictures if possible

I don’t have any pics of my old dwarf puffer set up on this phone.
This is my 36 gallon Amazon puffer tank:

I believe djsaltynuts djsaltynuts has dwarf puffers currently.
For setup, the most important aspect is having a good amount of wood and rocks to make up caves as well as plants for cover and breaking the lines of sight.
For care, they like a neutral ph at around 7, moderate flow, and temps of about 74-78. Water should be very clean of nitrogenous compounds as puffers are very sensitive.
Foods should be made up of shrimp, bloodworms, black worms, and snails, as well as various small insects and larvae. These guys do not have the beaks of other puffers but still love snails. It’s a good idea to have a snail breeding tank (like the 15 L) so you don’t have to go out and buy them (pond snails are preferable for dwarf puffers due to their small size, avoid Malaysian trumpet snails which can break puffer teeth).
One of my old dwarf puffers:

I had 3 in a 5 gallon tank, the dominant one eventually killed the other two. I also had some otos (if I remember correctly) and rosy red minnows (harassed the puffers) which did well.

Could a pleco live with them and what about live plants
Technically but the tank is too small for a pleco. Live plants are great with a puffer. Good options are Java ferns, anubias, hornwort, Val, Amazon swords, aponogeton, and duckweed. That’s what I have in my planted tank and they all look great.
