That bass weighed in at 8.25 pounds on certified scale and was released. Caveat is that I caught it in my backyard fishing in morning before going to work. I live on a 9 mile canal system that has some big bass. I once caught 3 six plus pounders in the span of 30 minutes fishing out of my canoe. Cons are it is a great fishery until the rainy season where all the incoming water blows out the water chemistry and the fishing just shuts down. Wife and I discovered a private stocked pond (stocked many years ago) where we have permission to fish. We fish there exclusively now because it is just so beautiful and pristine. Most of the fish we catch there are between 1-3 pounds with an occasional 4 pounder. The bonus is we average 20-25 fish per trip on artificials; our best day was 50 bass between the 2 of us. Been fishing there for 2 years now with biggest bass out of this Lake at 6 pounds. This year since January 1st we have taken 740 bass in that lake (all catch & release) and we missed 2 months of fishing with a new puppy.

The basis of the story is I snagged it. I was in one of the branching off points of the Colorado River, very narrow, fishing for trout, and I snagged it. It was in late spring, and thats when they spawn. They move into smaller streams, and I happened to snag one cruising by. Sheer luck, but still counts. The reason I said long story is because of the whole day and the fact it was almost my last cast.
