Going to a fish store in Kentucky for the first time in a while. This is the place I got my old rtc/tsn at actually but hoping to find some alleni rainbow fish or a pair of keyhole cichlids. Any other suggestions. These fish will be going into a 40g standard tank with 4 Buenos Aires tetras and 1 gymnallabes typus hardhead eel catfish.

Also have thought of a single African butterfly fish

Sorry, by standard 151 liter do you mean the long tank or the breeder tank? I apologize as I'm not overly familiar with the various forms of the 151 liter.

The former gives you more options regarding larger/more active fish because of its length, while the latter gives more options for a greater number of smaller/less active fish because of the short length but wide footprint.

It’s taller than it is wide. Rainbow fish may not be a good idea. The tank is 12” wide.

I don't know much about rainbowfish, but as long as they're 20 cm or less, they'll probably be fine. Fish usually need at least 1.5x their length in tank width, so you have a maximum of 20 cm in a 30 cm wide tank.

12" wide 40 gallon? what are the other dimensions?
A pair of keyhole cichlids, 4 BA tetras, and the catfish is current stock? I would add 3 more tetras and some otto cats and call it full, personally.
