my new pink-tail

I bought mine as a 3" juve back in June 2016. He is a good 10" now and quite thick with it. Yours looks slimmer and more streamlined than mine and also the tail on yours is a proper fork. The tail on mine, the bottom lobe is larger and more rounded than the top lobe, you can make it out in the picture though the angle isn't brilliant.

Mine grew up in a 180 and at times would throw some right wobbles. They are insanely fast, i'm surprised he never injured himself. Then when I put him in his current 360 he calmed right down immediately. No more spurts of mad speed when spooked, he's proper chilled now.

I'll be honest with you, I don't even know which chalceus he is. I bought him as a pink tail but if yours is a true pink tail I don't think mine is.

From everything ive read thus far, im inclined to think you have macrolepidota and i have epakros. I seem to recall a description on jeff rapps site mentioning a spotted lateral line in epakros.

There’s two species labeled & sold as pinktail chalceus in the aquarium trade. Included a thread from 2016. I still have them both. It’s very uncommon for the Erythurus to be called Tucan Fish at the LFS.

I have two 7" chalceus. They're characteristics are different. I've looked online and there's 2 pink tail species. I'm not sure which one is which. Can anybody confirm the specie for left and right and estimated max size? Thank u.

Yep, I plan on getting a shoal of 6 each when they are both available and I have an open quarantine tank. They will go on the top of the 450

This is pretty definitive then. Mine definitely looks like the macrolepidota you pictured.

I've had mine about 4 years now. Love him to bits. He's stopped growing now, he's maxed out at about 10-11". Thick too.

That's a C. macrolepidota. Snout is sharper and lacks yellow pelvic fins.
