It was a sad day when they added these to the list of banned fish in the uk. I have always wanted to keep them and never had the opportunity.
Wow,wasnt aware that they were banned there.

I love them monsters cyprinids, i love them all. But my favorites are the unique ones that distinguished among others. I have 4 of em

1. Copper Mahseer/Neolissochilus soroides
IMG_20211015_210055.jpg
Wild shortbodied, not the best grade but what stands out is that the jade colored fins. It used to be golden red but turn to this color in time.

2. Hybrid Tinfoil X Lemon Barb

This is unique on its own. Tinfoil & lemon barb mashed up together to become this beauty. Don't care about hybrid haters, no doubt that this fish is vibrant & stands out in a dark tank.

3. Hypsibarbus suvatti

This is one of the lemon barbs siblings. This is shortbody fish, I've ordered the normal bodied ones from thai & should arrive next week. Super solid fish, small head large body like termite queen lol. I love this body type.

4. King Tinfoil Barb

Also wild shortbodied, also not the best grade but the humps at the back of its head looking really solid. Also it has a lot of blacks, the black line on the tail also very thick & very nice red fins.

I'd like to update this thread with a fairly new addition to the list of my favorite cyprinids: the Odessa barb. Looooooove the bright colors on the males - especially that thick red stripe - and I drool at the thought of picking my first Odessas up in the next few months.

Were these monster sized, I'd bet all my tanks that they'd outdo every other species in this thread for overall popularity on this website.

Love Odessa barbs too and spent years breeding them. The only problem is selling them. I had to convince every LFS to set up a display tank with them in to encourage people to buy them. In shop tanks they are all plain boring colours, it’s only settled in and happy in the display tanks that the males show their fantastic colours. Don’t expect to go to a shop and see males in tanks with these colours, 90% of the time you won’t find them and in the 10% you do you are probably looking at older males which you don’t want. Buy a group of youngsters and no doubt you will end up with both sexes, and when happy and settled you should see great colours.

Think cherry barbs at 12” would look amazing too, but they look stunning at 3/4”.

1st off European carp are absolute a-holes.
My favourite is probably either tinfoils or Celestial Pearl danios. Cameras just don’t do them justice. My group of 15 keeps me entertained every day. Can’t wait till they all get to breeding age.
