29 gallon wet pet cichlid ideas

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I’d add at least a few taller plants and rocks as well as floating cover. It makes the fish feel much more comfortable.

He’s here, everyone meet Con Solo! Sorry I’m a huge Star Wars fan. So you might realize that this is not a platinum con, he’s a regular black convict. I fell in love with this little guy at the lfs and I caved. He’s got an amazing blue shimmer to him, a growing nuchal hump and beautiful fin trailers. He’s still setting in to his tank and is a little stressed but he’s constantly exploring his new home. I added an extra cave and a fake tall Anubias plant just like was advised. I say he’s a little under 3 inches maybe 3 inches if you include his fins. I’m open to any other advice but I’m super excited to have the little guy.

Sounds good!
Black cons look really good too! They are my favorite. Once settled you’ll get the same personality.

Awesome. I’m curious what the ideal water temp is. I see so many different parameters online saying 75-79 F and others say 78-82 F. I’d rather hear from others here on MFK and their experience. I have the heater set to 79-80ish. Is this okay?

I keep my con in an unheated tank which usually sits around 74-76. It’s by a window which helps to keep it a bit warmer.
79-80 is okay, but on the warm side.
Keeping it at about 74-78 is ideal.

Bit of an update on the convict. He’s still stressed out, colors still washed out too. I’m keeping the tank lights off for most of the day. He’s getting better though, I’ll sit by the tank for a few seconds, trying to be at his level or lower, not above him and he will come and look at me. He also ate some Northfin Veggie pellets today no problem, I just had to stand away from the tank a little. Trying to be patient with him. Anyone else have a convict like this? He seems much different and more observant than my Carpintis which I actually find really interesting.
