A. Labiatus male in heat.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm sorry, but I have to respectfully disagree. I think a 75 gallon is plenty for 1 male and his cave. That's all that's going to be in there. Doing water changes once a week with an fx6 and an AC110.

To each their own, imo 90 would be more comfortable for a single male.

I do love 90s, but they're still the same footprint.

Yeah you’re right. Tbh footprint matters more than how many gallons the tank can hold. Ideally if I can get a 60 long by 24 wide, that’s perfect for most large cichlid wet pets (in the 8-16inch range) imo

Nothing less than a 5ft long tank is big enough for an adult male midas or RT. Anything smaller than that, is bordering on cruel IMO. If you want one in a 75 for life, get a female. My male midas has a 6ft long tank to himself, and will for life. I've kept dozens of adult males in my lifetime and once they get around a foot, that 75 or 90 gal is just too small. Trust me, I've done it; felt guilty, upgraded, and never done it again. My last male was 14" in a 5ft long 120gal tank, and THAT seemed barely big enough for him honestly.

Just because a thing CAN be done, does not mean it SHOULD be done.

I have to agree, sometimes when I’m just sitting and looking at my 125 I realize how small it looks with my 13 inch O in there

Perfect example in my fish room right now. That's Tolken in his 6ft tank on the right. I actually measured him the other day, he's currently about 9" so still has quite a bit of growing to do.

That's literally my 75gal next to him. Even right now, at his subadult 9" size, that 75gal is clearly not big enough for him.

Sorry no, just no. He'll be ok in a 75. I've seen plenty of people on here with a rd in 75 and they're fine. Hes an f1 RD and not a midas. I doubt he'll reach the 12 or 13 inch mark, maybe 11. I had questions about him digging all the time, not tank size. If I wanted to be berated about tank size, I'd go to petsmart and ask for a pleco and tell them I'm putting him in a 10 gallon.
