my black wolf passed away and I’m thinking about what’s next for my 75 gal. I’ve had a mala first (in the early 2000s), then the black wolf; my tank is too small for an aimara. I’m reading up on other wolves, turns out Red/ Highfin/ Rainbow are all the same. lol. Most sources say they are aggressive towards each other and should be kept solo. Could be true, could be people copying one another in the internet without actual first hand knowledge.

What’s your experience, MFK? Has anyone here kept a group for an extended period of time, and what’s the verdict?

Thanks for inspiring me

Hard to figure out the boys and girls. Believe that’s the problem. Big enough tank with lots of hides and it should be doable.

It appears it will take a large tank and plenty of cover. Seen it done but haven’t tried it. I’d expect a few casualties up front. I started with 6 four inch gold wolves and they killed two within a week and settled into a pack of four. I’m thinking it’s sex ratio. They are 8-9” now.

ive been toying with the idea of doing a group of red wolves also.

i cohabbed a black, gold, and red wolf in a 75 growout before.. they were together 10 mos before i sold them…no big fights but reds tend to be annoying to tankmates especially to the gold one i had.. kept distance to the curupira tho?

If ur thinking cohab i suggest going with erythrinus erythrinus sp. peru aka “purple wolves” those have been tried and was a success.. or honestly after owning aimara, black, mala, intermedius, red, gold…. If i was gonna do a pack it would be gold wolves.. noone beats the activity.. they swim around alot and do get bigger than reds..✌?.. check my youtube or i still have vids of my wolves there

If u do decide to go through a red wolf cohab, dont just get 3.. i suggest like 5-6.. to spread out aggression..goodluck with any choice u make!

Allow me to quote Burt Reynolds from Smokey and the Bandit:
"How come we doin' this?”
"Well why not?"
"They said it couldn't be done."
"Well thats the reason, son."
