Me and my bike

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My number one hobby right now is fishing. We have 2 fishing kayaks - meant for ocean and bay. So I will go out from time to time. I forget the name but for anyone intrested I can find a couple pictures somewhere.

my second hobby other than fishkeeping is swimming. Since stopping soccer because of injury I’ve found swimming to be a really relaxing way to get exercise. I normally wake up before it’s light out to go and swim, but I’ll also do it at dusk as well.

Kayak fishing is something I’ve also gotten into somewhat recently. Almost 2 years ago actually I bought a Feelfree Lure (the 10 foot model) Definitely not suited for open water or ocean fishing as it’s very wide and almost built like small pontoon. Perfect for the shallow lakes and small ponds in my immediate area however.

I've got a great old towne fishing kayak, broad enough to stand in. i do wish it had the peddle mechanism which can make it easier to get into tight spots without disturbing the water so much.

Last night i was scooting around ( i have a moped i use alot in the spring/summer/fall) ended up in the national wildlife refuge right down the street, saw 5 nesting herons with babys, a small beaver munching on the weeds no more than 6 feet from me, then 2 painted turtles all on the same 50 foot stretch. As I'm leaving i see a huge dock I've never seen before and two guys fishing, when i walked down one of them pulled in a 12-14" chain pickerel beautiful fish.

Massachusetts water supply comes a reservoir called the Quabbin, they flooded like 5 town to make this waterbody and as long as you have fishing gear with you, you are able to rent a john boat, good for 2 ppl, with gas and cruise from sunup to sundown.

its pretty awesome

On the subject of fishing, something I used to do a hell of a lot of in bygone times, but not nearly as often now. My brother rang me last night. He asked me if I'm up for a boat fishing trip to Scotland this weekend coming. Obviously I jumped at the opportunity. So I may well start another similarly entitled thread soon called...."Me and my rod!"

Stay tuned folks.

Well, I had a spare few grand burning an hole in my pocket, and seen as a beautiful tank upgrade is a total non starter, I thought what a better way of spending it than getting a new shiny bike!

This thing is state of the art aero technology. Shimano 105 groupset, Shimano disc brakes, integrated cable routing system (no visible brake/gear cables). Been out for a spin this morning, what a dream machine.

Here it is, my brand new Merida Reacto carbon fibre aero race bike, and in stealth black too, hmmmmm!

I had a nice Trek, used to ride everyday until a scare on the road one day involving a crazy driver. Gave it away to a co-worker later that week.

In all my decades of riding bikes I've never had a bad crash. I consider myself very very fortunate. I've had a few near misses over the years, it can get quite scary at times.

The only dodgy instance I had, a real comedy moment actually, very embarrassing for me, was when I first started using clip on pedals.

For those who don't know what they are it's a system that ensures you are actually attached to your bike via the pedals! It ensures you get maximum power from not only the downstroke of the pedal, but the upward stroke too.

Anyway, when you stop you need to "clip out" so you can put your foot on the ground. And if you forget to clip out, and you stop, well, you have a very embarrassing comedy moment, as I once experienced, you just fall sideways still attached to your bike!! Lol.

Needless to say, this only ever happens once, usually, because once you've been through the experience you tend never ever ever forget to clip out again, lol.

Is it just my monitor screen...or is your "new shiny bike" actually entirely finished in matte black? :)

I'm picturing a squad of Navy Seals or Army Rangers...or, in your case I suppose, SAS operators...emerging silently from the water on a midnight beach...each hauling one of these black stealth bikes on his back...slogging across the sand to the solid ground where they can mount up and head off for their mission...

...until suddenly a kid on a mountain bike careers into their path, at which point they all forget to unclip or declip or whatever...and they all fall over like a bunch of gangly black beetles struggling to rise...

And...a few grand??? Is that what bikes cost nowadays??? :WHOA:

Do you realize what a terrific hunting rifle you could get for that kind of money??? :)

Yes, apart from the jet black glossy top tube, it's all matt black, so "part shiny" would have been a better description, lol.

And yes, I can picture it now, almost James Bond like. The British SAS on a top secret mission stealthily and silently slipping out of the water with their bikes over their shoulders for a speedy escape, lol.

Top end road bikes nowadays are indeed pricy. Mine retailed originally at £4500 but was reduced some time ago to £3200. I nearly pulled the trigger at that point, but left it a little longer, thankfully as it turns out. Because a few days ago it got reduced again to £2465!!!! It was at that point that I made Usain Bolt look pedestrian as I ran to order it, lol.

And being a tight arse I'd never expect you to fork out for an expensive rifle, lol. I had you down as a forked twig with elastic band type hunter, lol.
