Aqueon tanks at Petco

Are they the same quality as ones sold by a LFS ?

I was at Petco last week to possibly buy a 55 gallon tank to take advantage of the 50 percent off sale. I ended up not getting one because the 2 on display had uneven silicone seams. The feathering of the edges seemed very light in some areas....not confident the seam will stay adhered to the glass.

Another downer was Petco did not sell the Aqueon pine stands. They only had metal stands and particle board stands that required assembly.

new tanks from large company with warranty

I will say no that's why they are more expensive.

Are you saying a generic Aqueon tank at a LFS is higher quality than one from Petco ?

No not Aqueon brand. Some private owned lfs sell other top quality aquariums.

not sure about smaller tanks but my Aqueon 150g has been up and running for 14 years and counting. Their large tanks are excellent and built to last. not sure of about their more mass produced ones though (like the million kits they put out)

yes one of them is even older. I got one of them in the fall of 2008 when I bought this tank and one of them was from 2006 from a prior tank.
thats a LONG time.
I don't know what to do when the finally die. nothing out there in terms of canisters compares to these. seen way too many issues with the FX6 to replace with. Might just replace with a simple Aquaclear 110??? They last forever too.

I thinking I dont want to wait until these leak to replace with something else? I lube up the seals each time I service them but I don't know how much longer I will get out of them. Although I did read recently of someone who has one that is 20 years old so maybe I have some years left??
