And some people have been surprised that I moved to Panama to collect my own legitimate species.
About 10 years ago, I found it difficult to walk into a LFS and not find hybrid mutts.

Much like Duane said if you want the real deal do it yourself…otherwise you have to rely on others and then you still might get what you be want..

I think that would be really cool to do and I am all for it but I wouldnt even know where to start to even plan for something like that.

You might need to be more specific about what you want.Because
there may be breeders near you,
or you just may need to be flexible.
I used to travel to Chicago, 3 to 4 times per year, and be open what was available at GCCA or ACA cichlid conventions, and auctions.

M. argenteus breeder male
M. argenteus breeder male
Outside of me, their will not be many vendors with male specific adult breeding size M. argentea. With being this super specific is it is most likely going to need to be something you will find from a hobbyist looking to unload a grown out breeding size male. Or, You'll have to settle from a vendor that has small to medium sized grow outs and grab a few to grow up for that male you are looking for.
Even from here it would be on rare occasion and when available would sell within a few hours if even that long. Large, sexed fish sell fast. The single 10" male I listed in May sold @ $200 in less than 10 minutes after I listed it.

You were the first guy I contacted when looking for that male. I am sure that there are 1 or 2 out there that would be willing to let me have a male but its just getting the word out there. I know a few people in the hobby but not a lot. You would think with the internet and facebook that it wouldn't take long for the word to get out but unfortunately thats not the case. You would think that this weekend with the ACA going on that someone would know a guy who knows a guy that has one but nope. Facebook makes it a pain in the ass even with the specific groups within the central american cichlid community but you cant make posts looking for stuff....frustrating. If you have the connections you can basically get any fish you want but having the right connections is the hard part. Being in the right place at the right time plays a lot into it as well. I have been looking for any kind of argenteus and havent had much luck. I guess the moral of the story is get more young fish then you think is needed to make sure you get what you want. I picked up 6 to grow out and the 4 I have left are all female....lesson learned

I just watched a video from Ohio Fish Rescue and I saw a tank with several argenteus in there. Would this be an option? Does anyone know if they wheel n deal fish?
