I don’t know
Every now and then there is a find at Petco.
I also have dogs and a cat so I’m there often enough.

There was a tank of JDs regular and electric, 9.99 each.
I picked up this stunner and another for $20

I absolutely love Blue Dempseys... And at $10 awesome score!

And speaking of PetCo... I believe they are still having their 50% off sale on aquariums (previously $1 per gallon, now 50% off). I picked up a couple 20 gals a few weeks ago for a project.

Nice score. When I was a kid I remember petco being incredibly well stocked with an extensive aquatics department, several long aisles of stacked tank racks. Selections of archerfish, arowana, butterflyfish, puffers, rainbowfish, corydoras, syno cats, and saltwater fish that rivalled any specialty shop. In those days I was limited to small fish for my 10g tank...nowadays I have much more space but half the small aquatics section at my petco is glofish. They still have a few more unique offerings from time to time.

It varies by location, I’ve been going to them for about 18 yrs I feel like. The magnet stores have better stock usually and if there’s a fish head who works there.
I like my LFS stores better so I try to balance my spend between them- of course there are a few online vendors who are personable as well and I like to support them when it makes sense.

about 4" and friendly! i may have gotten a pair as the smaller one is always next to this one

That's awesome. Baby them!

The vast majority of Blue Dempseys that grow out are male. I've raised a few females though and a Blue x Blue pair are absolutely stunning. They pair in my profile pic were both breeders at early stages of their life but then "retired" together for another 4-5 years. They bonded very very well, were confident and dominant without being at all aggressive. They went through the motions of breeding, with the female turning pure black when spawning. The wigglers rarely last more than a few days and only became free swimming a couple of times. But still, they were a joy to watch.

Every fish I have is fat and happy!

It’s possible they’re both males- they’re just canoodling like a pair- but both show secondary, superficial male features- I didn’t vent them.

These guys seem pretty robust. In with carpintis, black belt and godmani.

I only QT marine fish.

In all my years keeping freshwater, I’ve only had diseases with clown loaches- and that was ich because I don’t keep my tanks above 80
