750 gallon new tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm adding a good number of fish to the tank in the next 6 weeks and so with that change, I probably will not be able to say with much certainty whether or not the matrix had made a difference. I guess it can't hurt though, and may possibly help.
I watched every video I could find on YouTube and read every forum post and like you mentioned the end result was inconclusive. Some said they could see a drop in nitrates where most said it had no negligible effect. As a media it's perfectly adequate but I was hoping to see what Seachem claims.

Checking in for updated pictures and videos? How are things going?

I added eleven more Frontosa a couple of weeks ago so there are now 25 Frontosa total. I have 16 more due to arrive in the next 3-4 weeks.

The star sapphire cichlids that I'm growing out in my 180gal are still not big enough to put in the Frontosa tank but I also want the Frontosa to be more mature before that happens and I'm actually enjoying having a Frontosa-only tank for now. I'm thinking in about 8-12 months I might put the star sapphire in.

I'm not really a cichlid guy...and haven't kept any African cichlids for probably 20 years...and generally don't go for light-coloured backgrounds...but that is a terrific tank! Frontosas are one of the very few Africans which have tempted me over the years; beautiful fish. :)

Thank you. Getting the tank to where it is right now has taken some effort on my part but has certainly been a satisfying experience. I added 80 pounds of fine aragonite sand to the substrate recently and have 60 more pounds I plan to add in the near future. Trying to get to a more natural look of sandy bottom with the larger pebbles interspersed.

I really like the Zaire blue variety of Gibberosa that I keep. IME when they are kept in a large enough space (and sufficiently large group) and there are no non-Frontosa fish present who stress them, then you see a good amount of natural interaction taking place.

The Moba are doing good. Still waiting for approval to import the 12 Benthochromis horii which will be added.

Lookin mint mate! Mobas are growing nicely! Are you still planning to add the pheno's to the 750?

Yes, I still plan on putting the Benthochromis horii in there. Still waiting for my import license though.
