Bought a pair labeled as fasciatus. Put it in the big tank with my last elongatus ayatto, that i bred myself. Now the male of the pair is always with the elongatus, ignoring or chasing away the female...
Can anyone confirm, that the pair are both fasciatus and not frempongi (mix)?
The biggest is the elongatus, which i thought was male...

It's a difficult topic.

They have a lot of similarities with frempongi. The male more than the female. But mood etc can play a huge role in how they look, and H. elongatus has a lot of different varieties depending on the catch location. There are varieties with a lot of red in the belly. And in addition there is still a discussion going on, if frempongi is a valid species and so on.
That's why I can't say anything for sure.

Btw the, if I had just seen the Ayatto without any additional information, I would have guessed that it's female.

Here's some pictures of our confirmed pair of Elongatus if it helps any female is on bottom male on top20251114_100805.jpg

Here they are awhile back when they spawned, we originally ordered 5 of them and I had a Elongatus from a different order from a completely different place. None of them got along with one another, these two paired off and we gave the rest to our lfs. We currently donate their fry to our lfs. I'm currently researching them more. Thank you for letting me know what exactly they are.

Thank you. The ayatto could be female, i am really not sure.. i could only tell his parents apart by their bild, see this old picture.. i bought the smaller pair as fasc, but the male shows the bright yellow and Red i only knew from frempongi... 26659.jpg
