600 and 280 gallon reset: getting back to my roots

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I hope it works, 1000 gallon tank didn't work for Guapote Mel, if I am not mistaken. hopefully you can keep us posted, it would be really nice if it works :) Festae and Umbee to of my favorites :)

Thanks. Sadly once the Umbee hit a foot, he kept the Festae pinned and I lost them. They surprisingly leave the two pairs of Loisellei and the nics alone.

A few pictures.

Made a few changes mainly because my Umbee does a good job of telling me what and who they like and what and who they don’t. Several more updates coming. Mostly scape and plants with some new plants and wood added, along with some new additions of the substrate. This is all for aesthetics, since not many people keep Jmbeee in fully scaled setups with tankmates.

Only other additons were the flagtails. Started with one to see how they held up in the tank and it went a full month without issue. Added five more for a group of 6 to difffuse the aggression. The nics will be removed, and I’m on the hunt for some gold wolves again.

It’s been a while. I’ve made some changes along with changes the male Umbee made for me. It’s been tricky finding suitable long term tankmates and so far, the Loisellei are the only original tankmates left with the species down to a 1M/2F trio. The dominant male Loisellei took out the other male with the male actively courting both females. Unfortunately, they’re mostly hanging in the branches, venturing out to feed and give chase to the Salvini.

The nics are gone. The Umbee largely ignored them but they hated the Parachromis and the notch in both the dorsals of the pair had me pull them and give them away.

The Umbee is with two females. Both unrelated. One is from my previous pair that I grew out from fry, the second was a recent purchase. No courtship activity since the male normally just chases them away.

I picked up a group of Salvini and added Pleco caves and buried them into the slopes of the substrate to give shelter to them from the larger species in the tank. They’re mostly ignored and given their temperament and cryptic nature, I’m confident these will serve as good target fish for the Umbee in this large tank. It’s been working well for a few months and recently added a trio that I saw at a local LFS with good red color.

Other tankmates are six Prochilodus that are larger ignored. I also have a single Pseudanos that’s been in this tank for years and is completely ignored. I picked up 10 Pink Tails for the top but they came in smaller than expected so I have them growing out in a 40 Breeder. I also have five Acnodon Normani coming next week that I’ll add to give more life to the tank.

A group of 5 Leporinus Octomaculatus will also be added shortly. These are smaller growing but my umbees and mates have never eaten live fish so I’m thinking these will be ok. Apparently, this is one of the few species that’s plant safe. We shall see.

Lastly, I have a 2M/1F trio of grown L600’s, a grown L14, a Bushynose, and a fat Striped Rafael that I forgot I had until o saw it a few days ago.

For plants, the Giant Vallisnera slowly got shredded as the Umbee and L600’s just swam through them and trampled them. Went back to Anubias attached to the hardscape and they’ve been working really well.

let me know what you think.

You’ve definitely got some serious awesome sauce!
I’m a bit curious about how the prochilodus behave. I had 3 and 1 pestered the other 2 relentlessly and without reason! I was forced to remove 2 of them. That said, your 6....does 1 rule over the others? Do they group in fear of the umbee? Is there harmony?
My compliments, beautiful scenery there.

Thank you.

The Prochilodus each stake out an area and squabble with eachother when they get near eachother. One doesn’t rule over the other five but the one that claimed the area where the food is dropped is a bit bigger now than the others. I don’t know how this will work long term but figured it’s worth a shot given the size of the group in the size of the tank.
