Technically and theoretically speaking, what can be kept with dovii that aren't other cichlids? Just curious about this.

In nature dovii often eat other species of cichlids, and once grown, could esentially eat any cichlid endemic in their natural habitat.
Of course there are other similar size new world cichlids, such as Cichla, or umbis, but they are not endemic to dovii habitat, and prefer different water parameters.(lower pH and softer water)

Along with some of the large catfish mentioned aove
Fish large enough not to be eaten, but are endemic would be the
adult Brycon guatemalensus (the Machaca )

They can reach 36¨(over 90 cms)
And some of the Centropomus species (aka snook)

The Loro Parque on Tenerife keeps dovii with pacus and other south American fish.

When I was there it didn't look like too much fun the dovii. They were defending quite small territories.

Not my video.

I know pacu is a schooling species, but damn, that's too much pacus even for me.

Not to hijack your thread but I was going to ask a theoretical question like this, what about micro fish with a full grown dovii? A large school in the aquarium first then add the dovii in last, raised on pellets, lot of sight breaks.
