Alert! Danger! Warning! A new tactic by bots...

I recently got a notice that someone had responded to a thread in which I had posted sometime back. Casually checked it out, and found that a bot had quoted the entirety of my older post, but had edited the quote to add an entire paragraph blabbing about online casinos.

Naturally, I immediately suspected a brain tumour! But I scrolled back to that earlier post and was relieved to find that, no, I had not mentioned casinos at all. The bot had cunningly added its sales pitch into my text, so that anyone reading its post...containing my comments...would believe that the casino comments were mine. Dastardly!

Is this a new tactic by these evil entities? Are they advancing the cause of their eventual world take-over in a new direction? Or am I just noticing something now that's been a thing for awhile?

I’m not sure how common it is mate, but I have noticed recently an increasing number of posts by “members” that are a major deviation from anything they have previously posted. Also said members have seemingly been inactive for some time, unlike yourself. Mostly stuff about available women etc etc. Bot central IMO

Hello; Interesting. I had one of the red signals which lights up in the little bell-shaped thing in the upper right-hand corner. Means a thread i follow has a new post. Thing is when I opened it, I did not know the thread. I had not posted in the thread.

I do not recall clicking on the follow box either. Such is possible but I do not remember.

Look up at the right hand corner and see if the word Unwatch appears. If it does, that means you subscribed to the thread, without necessarily posting.

Or do bots also add subscriptions without permission as well?

Hmm, I'm curious now. I don't come on here nearly half as much as I used to. Has anybody seen any posts from me lately which have been full of useless drivel?

Mind you, the difference between a hi jacking bots drivel and my own genuine posts would be hard to distinguish between!
