Thanks. That's what I thought. He says the pointed fins and speckled body mean male. Lol. Should've vented it when we moved its tank last week but forgot

That said, the females tend to be more patchy like yours.

With how much they are bred for color though, a lot of those traits can be lost compared to a wild caught fish.
The head shape is typically a good indicator. Males tend to have a sharper snout than the females.

Venting is the most reliable method though.

OP definitely has a female...

Males and Females can both have pointy fins. Males and females can both have not so pointy fins. It may be a little more common in males. Pointed fins is more of a dominance thing than a gender thing. And since males are generally a little bigger and a little more aggressive, they tend to be more dominant.

Females have "blue splotches" on their lower gill plates. Males are more usually blank, but can have spangles on the lower gill plate. Deadeye's male is an example of an unusually large amount of blue spangles on the lower gill plate.
Now we get to have the debate of the difference between a blotch and a spangle...
