Has anyone ever owned either one of these parachromis species?I am interested in thier personality/breeding how aggressive etc?Any info would help.Thankyou.

I've owned them both. They are typical Parachromis-like in behavior. They don't get too large and are gorgeous fish in the right conditions. Pairs bond very well, so you may do well to buy a small group and let a couple separate themselves. Add some dithers (silver dollars, or similar) and you'll have a nice pair for a long time. A 125 or 180 would suffice for life.

The males in both species will only reach a lenghth of ~12" and are quite mellow compared to the other 3 species in this genus.. They are very beautiful.

I had a Male Loisellei. Great fish. They all seem to live up to that Parachromis name. All are somewhat territorial or aggressive.
I had mine in with an Oscar, Jack Dempsey, Tinfoils and Bala Sharks. He did fine with all of them. A couple spats here and there.

I did end up removing him though. He started harassing my larger Oscar. Well, the Oscar had enough of the little punk and sent him into hiding with a bunch of scales missing.

He picked the fight, but couldnt back it up.

Just a little background of my Lois for your info.

thankyou all........I have grown a huge liking for them both, along with a few others I have in mind but I dont want wars either. They aren't very common and thats what I am looking for.Kinda tired of the "same ol fish" ya know?so I have been looking into the more hard to find or show kind of species. At least imo, these are both just awesome looking fish.

I'd love a Freddy but thy're so hard to find over here in oz. The colours are striking and they still have some attitude to back it up.

Good luck with whichever you select.

Dave

Freddies have awsome color, but to me their behavior seems like they are all talk no fight

ive had a male loisellei and he got the snot beat out of him by my gold sev so he went to a new home where he could thrive without threat. he was soft as muck, even the FM chased him and he was twice the size of the FM.
but all my fish have been the opposite to what they are generally supposed to be. you just need to know that not all parachromis are hard nuts they come soft as kittens too.
