I'm thinking about setting up a 10 gallon in my basement with 3 guppies the plan is to breed them till i can get a cold resistant strain of guppies do you guys think its possible? i have two females currently in 60-65 degree water. The basement's floor was 50 degrees the table i plan on putting the tank on was 55-low 60's.

I've had them thrive in the low 60's but I wouldn't go lower than that personally. If you want livebearers that can I would go with gambusias (mosquitofish) or platies.

Maybe pick up a mini heater to keep the temp stable if it swings at least.

Guppies don't seem to breed at lower tempature, however u could try to make a hardier hybrid guppy.
Guppies can be aclimated to full salt water already.
