Green terror pair

My green terror cichlids have just had they're first spawn and they are at the wriggler stage , I was just wondering will the parents continue to guard them when they are free swimming?
And also do the males have a preference for smaller females? As I had two females and had to take the largest one out as the male attacked it and decided to pair with the very little female :')

Sometimes first time parents might lose the batch of fry but will spawn again. Give them a chance before you decide to take fry out. Smaller female is probably easier to handle as things can get rough during spawning snd courting but idk if it matters or not just my opinion
