I would say no tankmates in a 90, these guys can get huge as stated before. 125 would be better, 90 should be do-able though as a solo wetpet. Maybe some giant danios or a bristlenose pleco. Very cool fish
How much do you feed? That's pretty surprising, I had a 11" ish Oscar with a couple 8" severums, a convict, and a 6" jack Dempsey for years in a 90 running just one of the old eheim classics (2217 I think? one of the bigger ones) and doing once a week 40% changes, and my nitrates very rarely crept above 40ppm\ I run an fx5 with all biomedia and 2 125gph sponges on an alita40(I think) and I do water changes 2-3 per week of no less than 50%. I have 3 large house plants with their roots in the tank to further alleviate nitrate creep. It doesn't work. 2-3 days and I'm pushing 40-80ppm nitrates.
Was merely trying to paint a picture about how fast waste can accumulate. I agree with everything you said Duane's. It's apples and oranges 100%I consider oscars as a fairly lazy species, compared to Vieja maculacauda.
I also find oscars pussy cats compared to the aggression of any Vieja.
So trying to equate similar living conditions is a bit off the mark.
But I also believe keeping an adult oscar in a 90 is cruel and unusual punishment.
I suppose you could jail one in a 90, but that's kind of like keeping a St Bernard in an average bathroom, 24/7.
I feed 1/4 teaspoon of NLS 3mm sinking pellets once a day and skip a couple days a weekHow much do you feed?
