I have a pair of Red Texas Cichlid in which the female is bigger than the male. Without planning they started the breeding dance but became too ruff with each other. I did separate them as I was moving them into their own 125g tank but thought I should let them heal up before trying them again. My questions are as follow.
With the chances of at least my male not being fertile should I even try the breeding again in a few weeks?
Do infertile males even try to breed? (he was trying really hard too)
Do I just need to Find a larger known fertile male?

If there anything like festeas a female will not breed with a smaller male due to them being able to protect the fry.

I'd leave them together and let them do there thing if there going to pair up and breed they will do it in there own time when there ready.

It's tough to find a fertile male red Texas. Let him try to breed with her and see how it goes. But, honestly, I would test him with a parrot fish first, very little chance of him getting hurt and you can find out whether or not he's a keeper. Good fertile males are really expensive.
