The green ones are there so the purple ones have something to be nailed to.

The green board are there for addition horizontal sway support, not just for screws.

Hello, this is my first post!
Was wondering if anyone had run the numbers on 3/4 in plywood?

I find plywood to be more resistant to warping and expanding than dimensional lumber.

I was also wondering if using other methods of joinery affected the numbers much? As an example, if I do use 2x4's when building my next stand I'd prefer to use lap joints (in addition to glue). I've always felt a lap joint was much stronger than a butt joint, but it does reduce the surface area of the 2x4, and these calculations factor in the full surface of the end of the 2x4?

Any thoughts on the above questions?

Thanks in advance,

Daryl

Might be a dumb question, but where does treated lumber fall in all this? Is it toxic or hard to stain, easily warped, or something? I have a chance to get all the stuff I want, for free, but if it's no good structurally or then I'll pass.
I was just wondering the same thing. I would think all the moisture would cause warping?
