Hello, I was told that red belly piranhas will sooner or later kill each other. I was wondering if this was correct or if it would only be if they weren't taken care of correctly. Please respond if you know answer to this question, Also if this is true should I just go with a Serrasalmus Rhombeus? If you want to recommend a good piranha species to me please do. Thank you.

If they are given a big enough tank and plenty of food and correct care there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to keep a shoal

A bit on the small side for raising a shoal to a decent size in my opinion.
You could start with 7 natteri (red bellies)
The weak will be picked off by the fittest and you may end up with about 4.
I really think a small shoal needs a tank of 200 gallons or more though.

I have had 6 in a 75 gallon they dont really attack each other. Even adding small one in with the existing larger ones did not cause any real problems. What they do is all claim a spot in the tank and if another one wanders into it they chase it off. Sometime butting or nipping each other but its all just bluster and show. The large ones recognise their own kind and wont automatically kill and eat smaller ones.
