My tank build link is in my signature. It is insulated and covered. I basically built a box out of 2 x 4's and ply wood.. the insulation is between the plywood and the pond liner.

Awesome thanks. So looks like the whole front and top panel lift off?

What did you use to insulate it? Have you noticed any issues in winter in struggling to maintain the temperature? What winter temperatures do you have there so I can compare it to here in the UK? Lol

The top and front are 2 panels each. I can take more pics later.. I'm at work right now. For insulation I used r-13 the stuff in the walls of the house. It did fine during the wintet.. temps range from 30 - 45 f. Sometimes lower sometimes higher.

Add a second 4" pipe connecting the two barrels. Media will continue to bunch up and slow flow with only a single flow through point.

Adding a second pipe is not really an option, can't shut my filter down for 24-48 hrs to let the silicone dry.

Why would you need silicon for plumbing? Just use a uniseal on either barrel. Drilling barrels and slipping pipe through uniseal would take under 30 mins.
