ID help please

My son was netting in the canal and caught this little guy. We're in southeast Florida. I can't seem to get a positive id on it, as it's markings match a few species. So he asked me to post here in hopes of someone knowing more than we can find out. Thank you!

My guess would be dianema longibarbis.

That's what I was thinking. It doesn't match the one I had previously, but maybe it's because it's stressed/ wild caught. He was so excited about it yesterday and just has to know lol.

Not my "4te"! Pun intended. 4te as in forte.

It's a porthole aka hoplo catfish, that's the extent of my knowledge.

If there is more than one possibility, I'd ask on Planet Catfish. I thought FL invasives are usually Hoplosternum littorale or some such.

Ok. Thank you! He catches all kinds of things from these little guys to mollies to some really impressive snakehead. But he caught this particular one and decided it needed a home. :confused:

Tell him never to attempt to bring any snakeheads home as they are illegal.....in case he did not already know.
