2 inch or more? practical fish? I know paradise fish. BUT anything that can winter outdoors in canada with a deicer in a barrel that is at least 4 feet deep? Nothing that gets over 8 inches of course they would eat all my fish

Mosquito fish might work -they're like kinda cold hardy guppies ours over wintered last year- IDK fish in a barrel. Fish in a cold barrel. I'd recommend sinking it in the ground if it isn't all ready.

Rosy Reds. Sticklebacks. Goldfish. They are hit or miss. The tougher fancy varieties (vieltail, oranda, jikin) will grow bigger than 8" (unless you don't count tails) but the smaller varieties (bubbleeye, pearlscale) almost for sure won't take the cold. The toughest, and the only ones that can for sure take the cold (Common, Comet, Bristol, Wantonai) will grow over a foot.
