Sump Pump selection

Hey,

I'm having a custom acrylic tank built in the next week or two. It's 48x24x24 so roughly 120 gallons. Dual corner over flows. Planning on having 1.25" drains and 1" returns. I figure this should be good for 10X turnover rate if I wanted to push it that high, maybe even more.

I haven't decided fully on sump yet, but probably going to build my own from a 40B or similar sized tank.

I have a friend running two Jaboa DC 12000's on his 650 gallon setup and he loves them. After checking them out I love the features, the slow start, adjustability, power consumption and especially the feed time feature. But I'm not sure which size pumps to get for myself. I will be running two pumps to their own returns for more controllability as well as for redundancy. I want each pump to flow about 350-400 GPH without being maxed out. So say about half way turned up. Should let me drop flow rate or raise it comfortably. The pumps will have to fight a couple 90 degree elbows and 5 feet of overhead.

Which model of these pumps should I go with?

I believe the DCP 6000 is the latest version of the pump. The DCP's are a bit more efficient than the DCT's.

I just ordered a DCP 5000 for my 35g tank. I hope I can cut the flow down enough that it won't overwhelm my small tank.

Yeah, this is not my first sump setup but this is the first time I have tried planning out a bigger tank. I think with the last setup, I just got lucky everything worked fine. I guess most important thing is that the overflow can gravity feed more water than the pumps can put out. Which is why I am going with the 1.25" drains in both over flows. Then 1" return on each over flow. I dont want TOO much pump, but I dont want less than 6X turnover. Which means I need around 700 GPH out of both pumps at 5.5-6' of head. I am not seeing much for charts on the Jebao pumps. From what I have seen online I am probably best going with 2 of the 4000 sized pumps. I am not set on processing a order though. I want to make sure first.

Pulled this from another thread a while back. It's for the DCT and in liters and meters rather than gallons and feet, but with some conversion should at least give you an idea...Capture+_2017-08-22-15-33-55-1.png

So according to their charts.... Going off of that, assuming I have about 6' of overhead on the pump or 1.8 meters, the DC 4000 sized pump is going to put out roughley 1200 Liters per hour or 317 GPH at that head at 100%

The 6000 sized pump would put out roughly 2700 LPH or 713 GPH at the same height running 100%. But I could dial it down to say 56% and that would come out to roughly 400 GPH per pump. 51% would give me 363 GPH which I think would be just perfect.

Now I need to look into the new DCP model and compare it to the DCT model from this chart. I might end up using the DCP 5000 or 6500 then in this case. Either way I dont want to have to run the pumps at 100%. Id rather them run around 50-75%

After doing more research and math I think I am safest with 2 of the DCP 5000. I am seeing conflicting results as to whether or not you can dial in the new DCP model below 65% or if thats as low as it gets. In that case, I wouldnt want to get stuck with the 6500 series and have TOO much flow. Looks like ill be able to run the 5000 series at 65% and achieve roughly 394 GPH. If that turns out to be the case, and 394 is achieved on each pump ill have close to 790 GPH total for a 6.5 turnover rate on the tank.... I think that's a great number. If it turns out a little on high side ill run a ball valve in there and use that to help limit the flow.

Not 100% set just yet, but I am thinking 2-3 Geophagus Balzani, 4-5 Angels or 2-3 Sevrums (undecided), 10-15 Metae Corydoras, 30-40 Lemon Tetras, maybe a L95 pleco.
