Wondering what everyone's biggest mistake/regret was in regards to first starting an aquarium.

Not knowing the nitrifying cycle, species compatibility, and proper aquarium size.

Trying to transplant a streambed into a 10g - mud, clay, pebbles, leaves, twigs and all. Thought I would get a cool aquascape. I got some dead mollies :(

Not putting a heater in my betta tank. Since they are normally in those little dishes I didn't even think to put a heater in. Poor guy didn't make it through the winter:(

Not understanding the nitrogen cycle. Probably the most common and biggest mistake for any beginner.

most recent one was had a batch of cichlids fry die as i keep them in a plastic tank on a cement floor and sun was too hot....
